MX22: Puerto Vallarta

The Mexicans know how to party on the ferry from La Paz to Mazatlán - music, singing and dancing!

The junior suite on the ferry was quite nice, complete with four single beds, a full bathroom and a little enclosed balcony. We all slept well with the gentle rocking of the ferry.

It was about 9am by the time we made it off the boat. The smells are different here and the humidity was noticeable. We fought our way through the Mazatlán traffic to the cuota 15D (toll road). Let me try to paint the picture… The highway is two lanes with a shoulder that is a half-lane wide on each side. Most everyone drives with half their vehicle in the highway lane and half in the shoulder - buses, 18-wheelers, whatever. That leaves a "lane" down the middle of the highway which everyone uses as a passing lane. Even if the highway is stripped with a double yellow and signs say No Rebase (no passing). It takes a little getting used to but it actually works quite well.

Before Puerto Vallarta we took a road toward the coast. I'd never seen hills covered in banana trees. It felt like a jungle near the coast. Signs posted everywhere warning of jaguars! We arrived in Puerto Vallarta during rush hour. The traffic combined with the humidity was a tough combination.

We arrived at the resort where my wife had arrived by airplane just an hour earlier! We showered and met for dinner. We'll stay here for a few days to rest before we begin the second half of the journey.
