MX22: Tequila

I kissed Claudia goodbye and headed east to Tequila, Jalisco to rejoin my riding buddies Ed and Sergio. The ride was uneventful - I took the windy coastal/mountain route Highway 200 until I found the toll road towards Guadalajara. The main highway wandered through the mountains revealing fields of blue agave.

Five hours later I landed in Tequila. This city is the birthplace of the drink made from blue agave. The town was founded in 1530 by Franciscan friars. The church was built in 1649. It's a real Mexican gem. This seems to be a vacation destination for Mexican vacationers. In fact, we may be the only gringos in town!

Busy streets, vendors, stores - Tequila is a lively place. Ed and Sergio arrived before me and took a Tequila tour. Some of the streets are so rocky that it feels like an off-road path on my GS. The three of us ate dinner at the fanciest place in town - meal, dessert, 2 drinks for 650 pesos each, just $32. We shared stories about the previous fours days apart and planned the next few days towards Copper Canyon.
