We left San Felipe slowly, that was the plan: coffee overlooking the Sea of Cortez, late breakfast at the hotel restaurant, gas and groceries. It provided time for our aching bodies to recover.
Our next destination was south down MX-5 to Bahía San Luis Gonzaga. The three hour ride was breathtaking following the gently twisting asphalt along the coast. Did this bay look like Southern California before houses and tall buildings erroded the natural beauty?
We bought food and beer for dinner at the little grocery store by the campsite. The palapa, just steps to the water, was 250 pesos (about $12). Sergio was once again the chef, crafting a delicious meal from a JetBoil with limited ingredients. The evening sky exploded with stars. I saw my first shooting star since childhood. It's a good thing we retired early as the evening winds howled keeping me awake much if the night. Thankfully we were in the palapa!
