Plans are made and plans change…
There was a Mexican Army presence at our hotel in the morning in Durango - let's call it a significant presence! They told us we cannot go to Copper Canyon. The Army guy in charge said there is no way we could go to Batopilas at the bottom of the canyon. That's the ride I really wanted to do. Going to Creel was a possibility but it didn't make sense with the security concerns to just go there and turn around. We took a vote and back to Mazatlán we go.
So, we took the toll road 40D back to Mazatlán. It's a very beautiful ride and an engineering marvel. All the bridges and tunnels reminded me of Italy. About half way to Mazatlán we stopped to remove our winter gear. After a brief chat the conversation the consensus was to take the ferry back to La Paz and work our way up Baja.
We're on the ferry now as I write this entry. We depart in a couple of hours and arrive in La Paz at daybreak. I'm sure the fiesta will begin again once dinner is served!
