A few days off…

Punta Arenas is our home for a few days. The ferry from Puerto Natales to Puerto Yungay only runs once per week departing on Thursdays at 5am. We need to be on the boat Wednesday about 9pm. So we'll hunker down here for some rest and relaxation. The hospitality at Zivko's house made me feel as welcome as anywhere I've ever been. Zivko wasn't happy that I moved to a hotel, but I needed some time alone. Albin also moved to a hotel for R&R.

Matias and I went to Isla Magdalena to see the penguins. We took a boat out to the island and then spent an hour walking through the preserve. They estimate that there are 4,000 penguins here. The word in Spanish is pengüino, yes with a ü. The ü is pronounced with a "we" sound. For example, we stayed in Malargüe - pronounced ma-lar-way.

I took some time to handle some errands and enjoy the local cultural activities. The military came out to raise the flag and some dancers demonstrated the national dance - the cueca. I made sure the kiss the foot at Magellan at the town square. This is a tradition which signifies that you will return again!
