About 11am we arrived at the Tecate border crossing. There was no wait at all and we rode straight through. No passport check, no document check, no questions...nothing, just straight through! We parked to get our FMM’s stamped. Everyone except me had no issues - pro tip, print and bring your FMM payment receipt. They eventually let me through without proof of payment. As we left the border the smells of tacos made me hungry!
Our route to Ensenada was along La Ruta del Vino, Highway 3. The local traffic was not happy with us following the speed limit as they raced past us. We stopped for tacos at a little stand. Lunch was fantastic and my meal was MX$140, about $7.
The view as we approached Ensenada was beautiful. It all changed once we entered the city. Rough city roads and traffic. I didn’t do well navigating us through the city but we made it. Our hotel was south of Ensenada in Estero Beach. We entered the complex through a guarded gate. I highly recommend staying in this area. We had plans to see La Bufadora and eat dinner in town. However, once here, we decided to stay, have a beer and eat dinner overlooking the beach as sunset fell. Juan Carlos was our waiter. He spoke excellent English and supplied numerous local tips. The entire meal for four was less than MX$2000. Tomorrow we’ll visit La Bufadora on our way to San Quintin.
