Day 12 - Wed, Jan 29: San Felipe to Mike’s Sky Ranch

Wade was off early today. No breakfast, just up and go. I’d already been to the beach to watch the sunrise. San Felipe was not my favorite town in Baja although the sunrise was beautiful!

A dog barked all night.  Seriously, I mean all night. I thought for sure he’d get tired, but no...he barked until the rooster stated to crow.

Kickstands up today at 11am as we only had a short ride to Mike’s Sky Ranch. From the highway it’s 31km down a dirt road. It took us about 1.5 hours including stops to enjoy the scenery, catch our breath and decide if we should really proceed. Parts were quite sandy - at least for my skill level. Other parts challenged us with rocky uphill or downhill sections. Somehow both Brad and I kept from dumping our bikes. No promises tomorrow though.

A Wednesday in January is not their busy season. Brad and I were the only two here! They have 170 beds and sometimes host even more with folks in sleeping bags. Ribeye steak dinner with rice, beans and veggies seemed to hit the spot! This is a legendary place and I look forward to returning!

Tomorrow we are back to the USA! Once we cross in Tecate, we’ll load the truck/trailer and regroup at the hotel in San Diego.
