After breakfast we left La Paz and headed north. We gassed up and ate lunch in Ciudad Insurgentes. The pork carnitas were excellent. From there Wade and I went on an off-road path and Brad took Highway 1 directly to Loreto.
For Wade and me the off-road path was well-maintained. Mostly hard packed rock/gravel/sand plus some sandy sections that got a little squirrelly. After 30 miles or so we began to encounter some high desert water crossings; 10+ for the day. We dropped down into the hamlet of San Javier. It’s home to the second oldest mission in Baja California. The final stretch to Loreto was twisty asphalt to the Sea of Cortez.
Brad was waiting for us at the hotel with a Tecate in hand! He managed to change the accommodations I reserved to get us three rooms facing the water. The Hotel Oasis is an undiscovered gem. I could stay here for several days.
Our destination tomorrow is Guerrero Negro. I’m looking forward to the scenery.
