Bogotá

Our pre-trip challenges continue - Shuli wasn’t able to board his flight because of a problem with his Columbia immigration paperwork. Sergio then spent hours working with Shuli and his son to get him rebooked and get the immigration paperwork accepted.

Now Shuli’s flight from Las Vegas to Houston was so delayed he missed his flight to Bogotá today. Fortunately he got rebooked on a flight the departs at midnight and arrive at 4:45am tomorrow. Finally, with some strange luck (maybe the tide is changing), Claudia just happens to be on the same flight as Shuli from Houston! She is coming to Bogotá for a few days to see her cousin and then go to Lima. Nonetheless, she is a godsend to help Shuli get through immigration and customs.

How was my flight you ask? Just fine, thank you! All three flights were completely full. My ass was quite sore after 10 or so hours of flying. It’s only my second flight post-Covid.

I breezed through immigration and customs and was at the hotel before 7am. I was very happy my room would be available at 10am. My breakfast was a delicious tamal y cafè. A regular coffee here is like a café con leche - and it’s fabulous.  Oh, the entire breakfast was COL$8500, about $1.75! I took a short nap and then Sergio and I took off to explore Bogotá - Monserrat, Barrio La Candelaria (historic old town Bogotá) and the swanky Parque 93 neighborhood. Dinner at Cumbia House was A-mazing.

Stay tuned…let’s see what tomorrow brings!

    1. That's the "tamal" the Columbian version of a tamale. I think it is wrapped in a banana leaf. It was very yummy.
