Carretera Panamericana Sur

After two days of traveling through hell, we found paradise. I can’t possible explain the depth of poverty in northern Perú. Trash everywhere - piles of trash for miles. We were told that people kept stealing the trash cans so the region discontinued trash service. People live in half-built or half-destroyed structures. Some just thatch huts scattered across the desolate, sandy landscape. The cities were barely nicer. Bigger cities like Piura and Chiclayo were quite rough as well.

Most of today we fought fierce winds with sand blowing across the highway. Many people told us that Trujillo was unsafe so we decided to check out the area outside of Trujillo called Huanchaco. Oh my did we find a little paradise! If you’re in northern Perú, this is the place to go!

Sergio had a drop trying to turn around on a small street by the place we stayed. The knob broke off the clutch lever. We made a field repair with JB Weld and duct tape. His tip-over also confirmed he has a fork seal leak. We’ll have to find a place to get that handled soon.
